The original Ko-Satsuma is characterized by a heavy dark glaze, often plain, but occasionally with an inscribed or relief pattern.
Kyo-satsuma is characterized by its soft, ivory-colored ground with finely crackled transparent glaze.
The best way to start collecting is to look for pieces you are drawn to.
